CHILD Foundation hosts organize annual art competition to raise awareness about children with autism
CHILD Foundation is a non-profit, non-government, and non-political voluntary organization, operational since 2016 with the aim of increasing social awareness regarding individuals with special needs and ensuring equal opportunities at all levels of their society.
With this aim in mind, CHILD Foundation has collaborated with schools, hospitals, non-government organizations, and experts to organize workshops, seminars, and other events, in addition to providing mental health support to the caregivers of special needs individuals.
Since 2018, CHILD Foundation has been running a project titled “Sponsor A Superhero” to raise funds for education, health, therapy, required device costs, and other financial and mental support for these individuals. At present, this project is serving 40 special needs children from five affiliated schools.
A project the Foundation is particularly proud of is the annual “Art for Autism” event that began in 2017. The event aims to provide art therapy in an inclusive environment. This year, CHILD organized the fifth edition of the event on February 24. Bringing together eminent artists such as Monirul Islam, Mostafa Monwar, Rafiqun Nabi, Kanak Chanpa Chakma, and Nisar Hossain to paint together with 60 special needs artists, the event was one of harmony and inclusion.
This year’s Art for Autism event was expanded into a three-day art event titled Nikhil Srishti. The first day was devoted to art camp and origami workshops for special needs participants. The second day brought in a star-studded roster of eminent artists in a live painting session. On the third day, the artwork produced in the first two days and from previous editions of Art for Autism, were put up for auction.
A total of 22 paintings were auctioned off, and the proceeds went into procuring equipment, including customized wheelchairs and AFOs for children with special needs, as well as covering the expenses for heart surgery for three children with Down Syndrome.
