Superstar Spaces

Add a touch of movie magic to your décor

March Oscars month, and at MWB headquarters, we can’t help getting swept up by the glitz and the glam of it. There’s something about awards season that recalls a love of everything filmy, and if you’ve seen our covers, you know we love us a good film. So while we’re seeing gold stars, let’s talk about that irresistible Hollywood style, and how to bring some of that into your décor in a way that is fresh and “now.”

Metal maze

Metals and metallic finishes allow you to achieve a high-end look without being maximalist about it. Contemporary trends point towards a judicious use of these shiny finishes in the form of tasteful accents. Start with one think piece, be it a gold or brass piece of furniture, a mirror or a metal frame for your painting, or a brass lamp. Mix your metals and throw in a few more until you’ve achieved a nice balance of style and luxury.

Tufted love

Tufted furniture is classic while also adding a glamorous and sophisticated feel. There’s something about a tufted couch or ottoman that screams luxury, even though the popularity of the style means there are plenty of affordable options around. When shopping for tufted furniture, pick a classic color or material, so that you get maximum mileage out of your splurge.

Mirror, mirror on the wall

Not only do mirrors add a touch of glamour, they also make a room feel bigger. Incorporate a glitzy mirror in your entryway, or a dramatic one in the bedroom for an opulent feel. Whether you pick a sleek and modern mirror or a more classic and ornate one will set the tone of your decor. If you want to kick it up a notch, consider using mirrored furniture, like a mirrored nightstand, desk, or coffee table. These pieces are both timeless and contemporary, making them the perfect addition to any modern glam space.

Something old, something new

Incorporating both classic and modern elements is key to giving your space character without it getting too theme-y.

Bring in a modern touch with faux fur, sleek lighting, and animal prints. Borrow a page from old-school Hollywood with vintage rugs, oversized dramatic lighting, and brass table decorations. Play with the old and new until you find balance in a way that is uniquely you!
