The Kho Gaye Hum Kahan star shares the secret behind his blazing guns and zestful way of being
By Pooja Prabbhan Srijith
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, there’s no way you’d not know who Adarsh Gourav is. Besides being known for his stellar performances in movies like My Name is Khan, Mom, The White Tiger, Guns & Gulaabs, Extrapolations, the actor-singer has been dishing out some really good work lately (listen to his latest cover of “Jaane Who Kaise” in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan if you haven’t already), and flexing those abs like the quintessential millennial actor. Armed with the right amounts of brains (his choice of scripts and filmography is proof) and brawn, it’s likely that he’s here for the long haul. In a freewheeling chat, the 29-year- old takes us through his fitness routine and future projects.
Excerpts:
How important is fitness for you?
Extremely important because I see it as a form of release and a form of centering myself. So, fitness has always been part of my life and I hope that it continues to be. I first started working out when I was 16 or 17 years old. I have been working out on and o for the last 12-13 years.
Tell us about your diet and workout routine
I just try to not eat anything that comes in a packet. So, I usually avoid any kind of saturated food, and sugar in any form unless it’s jaggery. So that is pretty much my diet unless I’m shooting for a film. And then obviously the nutrition aspect of things become very specific depending on my character and how he looks.
Can you give us a breakdown of your meals?
So, breakfast is usually four egg omelettes with toast. And then I have a bowl of milk with protein powder, some dates. And some blueberries. For lunch and dinner, I usually stick to whatever has been prepared at home. So basically the usual dal, roti, sabzi. I also snack on a fruit or protein bar in the evening.
Three most underrated Indian superfoods according to you?
I think hara moong dal. paneer. Not processed paneer, but fresh paneer that has a lot of protein. So, yeah, these two things.I also like avocado a lot.
And how do you tackle holiday binge eating guilt?
By going on runs in the mornings when on a holiday. So, if I’m eating shit in the evening and night, I make sure to burn it in the morning.
What is your mantra for unwinding?
Just being in nature or being in a place where there are no people. Like in a forest or the hills or by the beach.
A fitness fad you would never try?
I would never put any external steroids in my body.
What is your advice for someone who is just starting his or her fitness journey?
I would advise them to pick up a routine that they enjoy. And to be regular.
What next in terms of work?
So, next is Alien, which is actually called Mr. October. It’s produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Noah Hawley. It’s a show for Disney FX. And I have Superman of Malaygaon. And I guess we also have Guns & Gulaabs season 2 in the pipeline.
