Power, pop and possession – welcome to the wildest animated film of the year.
By Mahjabin Rahman
Onstage, they are dazzling K-pop idols. Offstage? Fierce, demon-slaying heroines. K-Pop: Demon Hunters is a heart-pumping, occasionally chaotic tour through the messy worlds of fame, friendship, loss and what it means to grow up as a girl in the spotlight.
Set in a bright, animated version of Seoul where the supernatural threatens alongside a million-watt concert stages, this world blends mythology with music. Here, demons are real and so are the hunters. Idols are not merely singers, they wield their voices like weapons to hold up an ancient seal called the Honmoon that protects humanity from creatures that steal souls.

So we are talking about a girl band named The Huntr/xwhich consists of 3 members – Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. But hang on, before we go there, can we just talk about K-pop for a sec? As I say K-pop, It’s not just “pop music from Korea,” alright? It’s a whole universe. We’re talking razor-sharp dance moves, music videos that look like blockbuster movies and visuals so extra you’d think they’re out of a comic book. K-pop idols? They basically run their own planet. Fans (they’ve got their own names, obviously) fill stadiums faster than you can say “ticketmaster crash,” waving these glowing lightsticks that turn concerts into literal galaxies. There’s merch drops, choreo tutorials, comeback teasers dropping at 3AM, you name it. And this is exactly how the world of The Huntr/x is but there’s more to them besides this. They are idols with the responsibility to keep the Honmoon safe and keep demons away from their fans but Rumi has her own demons to fight and secrets to keep from her friends. She is doing everything in her power to protect her friends and fans.

But then……
You’re all I can think of
Every drop I drink up
You’re my soda pop
My little soda pop
Then comes the Saja Boys. The second they show up, everything flips. Suddenly The Huntr/x aren’t just doing their thing anymore, they’re straight-up battling Saja Boys for the spotlight. But is Saja Boys your regular K-pop boy band? No! They are demons disguised as idols but with killer looks, golden voices and kickass dance steps who are here to steal souls and now this is up to The Huntr/x to stop Saja Boys. and protect humanity.
So, yeah, that’s the gist of the plot—at least on the surface. But if you’re thinking that’s all there is to it, oh man, you’re way off. There’s a whole rabbit hole of twists and layers just waiting to mess with your head.
And let’s talk about those performances. Seriously, every actor is on fire. The songs? Absolute bangers. Good luck getting them out of your head, they’ll be stuck on repeat whether you like it or not.

Now, about those Saja Boys. People are losing their minds over them. It’s wild. They’re blowing up everywhere like the hottest K-pop group, except – plot twist – they’re not even a real boy band. Wild, right?
But what truly changes the movie is Jinu. As both a rival and possible love interest for Rumi, he is more than just the eye candy of Saja Boys. His character drags the story into deeper, more intimate realms. It’s K-Pop Demon Hunters Jinu challenges Rumi emotionally as much as he does with HUNTR/X, forcing her to grapple with things she has spent the entire film avoiding facing. That is where K-Pop: Demon Hunters actually lands its punch: not in the elaborate fighting scenes and performance competitions but in the way it employs Jinu to blur the borders between ally, enemy, and neutral.

Underneath all the sparkles and supernatural chaos, K-Pop: Demon Hunters actually has something to say like, real stuff about stress, performing, and the total disaster zone that is trying to grow up when everyone’s watching your every move. Sure, it’s got flashy tunes and wild fantasy vibes, but honestly? It’s also about figuring out how to have your friends’ backs, even when you’re low-key losing it yourself.
Everyone’s got their eyes glued to this thing. Seriously, you can’t scroll through your feed without tripping over another fan edit or some wild fan theory, people are losing their minds over Demon Hunters. It’s not just a movie anymore; it’s blown up into this full-on cultural frenzy.
If you want something that actually bites like, seriously, not just the usual factory line of pop, throw this on. K-Pop: Demon Hunters isn’t just about demon-slaying (though, yeah, there’s plenty of that), it straight up shreds whatever you thought you knew about what K-pop could be. This slays expectations.
