Thanks to viral trends, new garments and collections are arriving in the market at a fast pace, leading to mass consumption and wastage. At times, these textile campaigns love to add fancy sustainable words on labels to prove that they are environmentally friendly. But are they actually? In The Clothes We Wear, two reporters go undercover to uncover the reality of these textile factories. The movie examines the excessive amount of damage that fashion has caused to the environment and the benefits earned by labels through the concept of greenwashing.

SALVATORE: SHOEMAKER OF DREAMS

Shoemaker Of Dreams revolves around Salvatore Ferragamo. The two-hour film focuses on the teenage Italian cobbler Ferragamo, who sailed from Naples to America to seek a better life. Settling in Southern California, he became Hollywood’s go-to shoemaker during the silent era. Later in 1927, he returned to Italy, and founded in Florence his namesake luxury brand. This feature-length documentary recounts his adventures and journey showcasing the brand’s success.

MADE IN AMERICA
Made In America is the latest instalment of US-based NGO Remake’s
‘Made In’ video series, which is directed by Stephen Philips and Christopher Russo. When you think about fast fashion production, the US might not be the first country to come to mind. However, the truth is that the garment makers are put into vulnerable situations and being taken advantage of on a daily basis. Remake takes you through multiple Los Angeles clothing factories and talks to local garment makers, designers, and a labour conditions inspector about what is really happening in the land of the free.

IN HIS OWN WORDS
Martin Margiela has stayed away from the public for his entire career — some of them call him Banksy Of Fashion. Directed by Reiner Holzemer, in Martin Margiela: In His Own Words, the designer revealed his drawings, notes, and personal items, giving us an exclusive peek at his vision and career. The film features interviews with, among others, Jean Paul Gaultier, Carine Roitfeld, trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort, fashion critic Cathy Horyn, and fashion historian Olivier Saillard. The score has been composed by the Belgian rock band dEUS.

REDRESS THE FUTURE
If you are new to the world of sustainable fashion, ReDress The Future is an entrylevel docu-series to binge on. In this three-part series, climate activist Mikaela Loach explores the industry’s most damaging factors and practical solutions to put an end to the issues. A solutionfocused series, it aims to highlight the work of designers such as Phoebe English, Christopher Raeburn, and Orsola De Castro, who put sustainable fashion into practice through their work.
