Hasura Akther Rumky’s paintings up on display at La Galerie, Alliance Francaise
The debut solo exhibition of artist Hasura Akther Rumky, titled ‘Self and Others’ was up for display at Alliance Francaise earlier this year. The inaugural ceremony for the exhibition was attended by Shadhinota Puroshkar winning artist Shahabuddin Ahmed and renowned actor and cultural activist Shomi Kaiser on 27 January. The artworks were on display until February 1.
ABOUT THE COLLECTION
Rumky’s maiden solo exhibit incorporates several paintings series, including rickshaw pullers, the mystic bards, pigeons with portraits and self-portraits.
People are the main subject of Hasura Akther Rumky’s paintings. The characteristic of her anthropomorphic paintings can be understood in the light of the adage of Da Vinci, “A man’s face is the window to his/her soul”. Skilled in pastel, acrylic, charcoal, and other media, Rumky did not draw superficially familiar subjects; rather, she has wanted to touch beyond form, the invisible world. And in the painting lies illusion and longing for human connection.
“My art is a constant search for the best way to interpret my ideas about myself and my surroundings”
