Kamal Hasaan’s KH House of Khaddar brings summer’s finest moods together in a collection called Chaos, inspired by art. The collection combines Creative Director, Amritha Ram’s love for Van Gogh and Khadi in a dialogue between art and fashion through a range of silhouettes from dresses to jackets, and wide-legged trousers to co-ord sets.
KHHK’s, ‘Chaos’ is a play of striking colours, emphatic brushwork, and curved structures. The collection is a conscious leap into unusual techniques and processes, expressed in simple khadi with a variation of 120 and 200 thread counts. We experimented with painting styles to achieve the collection’s unique look by blending colours romantically. This summer collection picks from a bright vibrant colour palette of mauve, green, red, and yellow, with pastel accents. The dresses are boldly undyed khadi combining classic slim silhouettes and contemporary full designs. Every silhouette was chosen to present the art on it. The collection features dresses, jackets and co-ords while introducing wide-legged gender-fluid trousers. Chaos also marks KHHK’s first foray into adding metallic detail to clothing.
Says Amritha Ram, “I was at the Van Gogh exhibit in Paris and knew exactly what I wanted for this collection. Bringing that vision to tangible life, however, was an exciting challenge since art is its own master whether on canvas or on fabric. It took time to create the textures in partnership with a fine artist, and more to reimagine the art as clothing. It was an exciting challenge resulting in clothes that like their inspiration are very much the main character of every frame.”
