M.Micallef, an artisanal fragrance brand launched by Martine Micallef and Geoffrey Nejman in 1996, has recently launched DesirToxic L’Intense, a fragrance that takes inspiration from travel. How do you think men can be taught the art of fragrance layering?

Fragrance layering is about exploration and self-expression. Men should start with a solid understanding of notes: woody, spicy, fresh, gourmand, and then experiment with combinations that enhance their natural aura. It takes patience and curiosity, much like developing a personal style. I always recommend starting with a strong signature scent like and then adding complementary notes, perhaps a fresh citrus or a smokey oud, to match different moods or occasions.

Tell us about the bottle of the fragrance, something that has always been a special feature for the brand.

At M.Micallef, craftsmanship is everything. The bottle of DesirToxic L’Intense reflects the essence of the fragrance: bold, elegant, and striking. Our flacons are handcrafted in our atelier in Grasse, with intricate detailing and luxurious finishes. Each bottle is not just a container but an artistic statement, designed to be treasured as much as the scent inside. With this one in particular, we have opted for a darker tone than the original.

You took inspiration from travel for the fragrance. What kind of notes would that be?

Travel evokes emotions, memories, and contrasts, and we wanted DesirToxic L’Intense to reflect that. You’ll find exotic spices reminiscent of Middle Eastern souks, deep woods that recall ancient forests, and sensual musks inspired by the mystery of far-off lands. There’s an adventurous spirit in every note.

Talking about travel notes, in your opinion, where would this fragrance transport us?

For me, DesirToxic L’Intense transports you to a luxurious night in New York or Dubai, where the air is thick with spices, the warmth of amber lingers, and the energy is electric. It’s a scent that speaks of adventure, seduction, and untamed luxury.

In your opinion, how has the idea of wearing fragrances changed over the years?

Fragrances have become deeply personal. In the past, people followed trends; now, they seek scents that reflect their identity. There’s also a greater appreciation for niche perfumery. People want quality, craftsmanship, and exclusivity. Fragrances are no longer just about smelling good; they’re about storytelling and self-expression.
