LOUIS VUITTON SHOWCASES SPRING/SUMMER 2023 SPIN-OFF SHOW IN CHINA

Louis Vuitton presented its freshly minted Spring/Summer 2023 menswear edit for the second time at Arayna in China, launching myriad never-before-seen looks. For the Spring-Summer 2023 Spin-Off show in Aranya, the French fashion house expands on the idea of the magnified playground that was first showcased in Paris in June. A cinematic prelude titled Mirage, which was created in a collaborative effort between Chinese directors Jia Zhangke and Wei Shujun, portrays themes of childhood, discovery, and community. For Spring/Summer 2023, there’s an eclectic range of ready-to-wear workwear and monogram-infused pieces as well as accessories such as belts and bags. Other clothing items such as coats, shorts, skirts, and workwear are woven in three-dimensional tile towelling as a sculptural acquard fil chenille in coats and suits, kaftans, pyjamas, coats, and knitwear. We see a heavy emphasis on tie-dye and embroideries in various combinations. The colour palette features a mix of yellow, lilac, blue, green, and black.

GUCCI INTRODUCES ‘THE GUCCI TWINSBURG’ COLLECTION AT MILAN FASHION WEEK

As a tribute to his mother and her twin sister, Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele presented his latest Gucci Twinsburg Collection at Milan Fashion Week. A total of 68 identical twins walked down the runway in matching Gucci looks from the collection. The collection took inspiration from the animal kingdom, referencing many looks, while other vibrant prints, metallic looks and colours were also spotted. From floor-length dresses to oversized overcoats, Gucci Twinsburg sees a heavy emphasis on the styles from the ’70s and ’80s. “Twinsburg plays this game, producing tension in the relationship between original and copy. As if by magic, clothes duplicate. They seem to lose their status of singularity. The effect is alienating and ambiguous. Almost a rift in the idea of identity, and then, the revelation: the same clothes emanate different qualities on seemingly identical bodies. Fashion, after all, lives on serial multiplications that don’t hamper the most genuine expression of every possible individuality,” says the collection note.

KANYE WEST TERMINATES HIS PARTNERSHIP WITH GAP

Kanye West and Gap Inc. are officially ending their collaborative partnership, which was launched in 2020. The partnership aimed to generate $1 billion in sales annually, which was set to include menswear, womenswear, children’s clothing, and accessories. On September 15, Wall Street Journal reported that Gap Inc. and West are ‘not aligned’ in their partnership. The rapper confirmed the news when he shared a notice of termination on his Instagram story on the same day. “While we share a vision of bringing high-quality, trend-forward, utilitarian design to all people through unique omni experiences with Yeezy Gap, how we work together to deliver this vision is not aligned, and we are deciding to wind down the partnership,” wrote Gap’s brand president, Mark Breitbard.

PATAGONIA’S FOUNDER GIVES UP LEGACY TO TACKLE CLIMATE CHANGE

Patagonia, the famous outdoor apparel brand, has taken a rather unexpected turn after its founder Yvon Chouinard announced his decision to give up the firm in order to combat climate change. Chouinard transferred his ownership of the company to a non-profit organisation. According to The New York Times, Chouinard could have sold the brand, currently valued at $3 billion, or taken it public. However, the entrepreneur’s family decided to transfer Patagonia’s voting shares to the company dedicated to fighting climate change for the planet’s protection. “We’ve always been dead serious about saving our home planet — and now we’re putting the entire business where our mouth is,” reads the brand’s announcement caption on Instagram. The announcement began with the founder explaining how he never wanted to be a businessman and believed he was always a craftsman at heart, which is precisely why he started off making climbing gears for his friends and family and turned into an apparel retail business later on. The Chouinard family will not receive any money from future operations but will remain on board to oversee the trust.
