THE ‘BRAND’ OF GOD COMES TO INDIA

As Argentina fans continue to bask in the glory of their historic FIFA WC 2022 win, there’s more good news in the offing for Indian football fans — a brand named after the legend, Diego Maradona is making inroads into the country’s luxury fashion scene, under a licensing deal. Bradford License India Executive Director and CEO, Sachin Goel confirmed reports of the firm being roped in as the brand’s exclusive India partner. “We have been appointed by Sattvica SA, the owner of Maradona brand, as their exclusive India partner,” Goel stated, as per a report in PTI. Bradford attained the license roughly a month before the news went public, and currently manages over 60 global brands across the fashion, lifestyle, FMCG and sports spectrums. Speaking about potential partnerships with e-commerce retailers that are underway, Goel said, “Products will be made available as per the partnership launch plans.”

GUCCI BACK AT MILAN FASHION WEEK

Roughly after a three-year gap, Gucci is back at it again with a stand-alone men’s collection and the first line-up since the exit of Creative Director, Alessandro Michele. The much-awaited live unveil, which entails 72 events —21 runway shows and 31 presentations — is scheduled to take place at Pitti Uomo in Florence between January 13 and 17, 2023 at the men’s fashion week in Milan. The Creative Director’s chair of the Italian fashion house remains vacant and continues to garner intrigue. Italian fashion’s governing body, the Camera della Moda is yet to release the official schedule of shows, but speculations are rife that over 40 pioneering fashion brands will stage runway shows including names like, Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Prada, Moschino, and Etro.

DEEPIKA PADUKONE IS POTTERY BARN’S NEW BRAND AMBASSADOR

The FIFA 2022 trophy unveil and a freshly minted self-care brand later, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone gears up for a global collaboration with American furniture retailer Pottery Barn before the year ends. Signed on as a brand ambassador to promote the company’s international expansion, Padukone’s collaboration with the brand entails working closely with them to create a collection. “Deepika’s passion for home design and timeless sense of style resonates with Pottery Barn fans worldwide — and through our collaboration launching in 2023, customers will have the opportunity to bring Pottery Barn’s coveted designs infused with Deepika’s signature style into their own homes,” said Monica Bhargava, Pottery Barn’s Chief Design Officer, in recent reports. The hugely popular home furnishings brand had its first store in Ambience, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, and features a range of products, including furniture, bedding, bath, rugs, window treatments, table top, lighting, and decorative accessories.

METIERS D’ART SHOW TO GET A RERUN IN TOKYO

Chanel’s iconic Dakar 2022/23 Métiers d’Art Show will see a re-run in Tokyo. Scheduled to take place on June 1, 2023, the collection debuted at the former Palais de Justice in Dakar, Senegal on December 6, 2022. Inspired by the vibrant hues and richly ornate embroideries of beads and sequins, all while ushering in the spirit of the 1970s, the show pays homage to artisans from across the globe. The show garnered widespread celebrity attention, and saw house spokesperson Pharrell Williams and others like Naomi Campbell, Whitney Peak, Nile Rodgers, Princess Caroline of Monaco and her daughter Charlotte Casiraghi in attendance. The 2022-2023 Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show was reportedly part of a three-day cultural program in the Senegalese capital. The announcement marks the first international destination for the now-traditionally traveling show, originally initiated by the late designer stalwart Karl Lagerfeld.

PRADA GETS A NEW CEO

Say hello to Andrea Guerra — the new group CEO of the Italian luxury fashion house, PRADA, which comes shortly after Patrizio Bertelli, 76, announced his decision to retreat from the position of chairman of the board. Spokespersons for PRADA maintained that the former Luxottica executive’s appointment would be officiated via a board meeting slated to take place in January, 2023. An official statement by PRADA followed suit: “At the Board Meeting of Prada S.p.A. to be held on January 26th, 2023, Andrea Guerra will be recommended as Chief Executive Officer of the PRADA Group. Miuccia PRADA shall remain Creative Director of Miu Miu and PRADA (the latter together with Raf Simons) and Board Member.” This line of succession sees Bertelli play the successor to Paolo Oni, who has reportedly been recommended to take chair as Executive Deputy Chairman of the group and Chairman of its parent company Prada Holding.
