Suit Yourself

A Top Ten lookbook for SS23

Suits have been around for over two centuries, and this handy dandy wardrobe staple is going nowhere. In the boardroom or the work space, suits are more than just standard office attire. They are expressions of power that mirror achievement, experience, expertise, and success. After a long dalliance with working from home (and in your pajamas), the hybrid office system is bringing back corporate clothing, and the suit is having a glorious comeback.

With that in mind, Top Ten brings us some sharp and confident looks you can take from the boardroom to the after-party any day.

CHECKS OUT

Checkered patterns were traditionally seen as less formal options compared to solids and stripes, but the present mood leans towards bolder suits with more panache. Plaid has always been a popular check print, but two other patterns that are trending include gingham and windowpane checks. Top Ten does a beautiful forest green three piece, with contrasting waistcoat, for those spring weddings, and a softer, gentler gingham in cream and cornflower blue as a daytime option. Their women’s plaid two piece gets a very berry update in this fierce, feminine shade.

PATTERN PLAY

If you’re going to make a statement this year, a boring old suit won’t do. Quirky colors, expressive prints, and pattern mixing, these suits are here to play. Pair a flirty floral with a stable check or stripe, or layer some fun polka dots under a serious windowpane check, or even liven up a monochrome floral two-piece with a bright contrasting accent. The key is to have fun and seek balance.

PASTELS IN THE SKY

Pastels are always popular in spring, and this year is no different. Contrasting blocky silhouettes with softer blush tones and gentle floral prints creates a soothing visual effect that’s perfect for those casual meetings or working lunches.

LOOK OF LOVE

Blush tones, bright red, electric blues, these are some colors that trend hard during the first half of February. Make sure to invest in classic pieces, like a tailored button down, or a structured blazer; pieces that retain their appeal long past the one seasonal event.

MONOCHROME MOMENT

When the sun sets and it’s time to party down, all black everything is still an unbeatable way to turn heads. Unless, of course, you add a splash of red.
