Gold has been a hallmark element of Bulgari since the Art Deco era. And it was once again the leitmotif of its 2024 launches at the LVMH Watch Week held in Miami recently. From the daring classicism of Bulgari Bulgari, the jewelled splendour of the Lucea, and the slim elegance of Octo Finissimo, all the new launches basked in the lustre of the yellow metal.

LUCEA

Another of Bulgari’s iconic watches launched in 2014, Lucea exemplifies the brand’s approach to jewelled timepieces and its reputation as the ‘Roman Jeweller of Time’. Crafted in steel and gold, the seven watches in the 2024 collection have been crafted both in gold and steel. They feature reimagined lines – from the bezel to the V-shaped bracelet links. The slimmed down bezels are set with diamonds and enclose the dial either in mother-of-pearl Intarsia or malachite marquetry. Twelve brilliant-cut diamonds, claw-set in square, sparkle as hour markers. Another diamond adorns the V-shaped crown, topped with a cabochon-cut synthetic sapphire, mirroring the dial’s design. One subtly opulent iteration of Lucea dazzles with a diamond-set bezel with a total of 56 gems and 1.3 carats on the case and dial.

The 33 mm version with a thickness of 9.16 mm is driven by a self-winding mechanical caliber with a 42- hour power reserve. The 28 mm version comes equipped with a quartz movement, allowing for a thickness of just 7.72 mm. Other versions in steel or rose gold, is paired with a metallic bracelet.

OCTO FINISSIMO YELLOW GOLD AUTOMATIC

The watch which has set eight world records for its ever-declining slimness is celebrating its 10th birthday this year with this 2024 yellow gold version, with a blue lacquered dial. The 18K, 40 mm yellow gold case is just 6.4 mm thick and comes with a polished yellow gold crown with a black ceramic insert. The extra-slim automatic BVL 138 movement which is just 2.23 mm thick can be seen through the transparent caseback. Has a power reserve of 60 hours. A second version comes with a steel case and a ‘Tuscan Copper’ metal dial.

BULGARI BULGARI

With its 14-letter name engraved across the bezel, this unisex watch has journeyed across nearly five decades, gracing the wrist of iconic personalities, many of whom defined their era including the likes of Tina Turner, Susan Sarandon, Carol Alt, Bill Gates, Benicio del Toro, and George Michael. The 2024 iterations in yellow gold – a historical and iconic material of the collection – and in rose gold come in two sizes. The first one is in a gender-neutral 38 mm case with a transparent caseback for a full view of the self-winding mechanical BVL 191 caliber. The second, in a 26 mm in a diameter case, with a quartz movement, is a mere 6.35 mm thick. The yellow gold models feature a striking contrast with a black watch face. Maintaining the original Bulgari Bulgari’s design cues, the geometric lugs of the case extend into a black alligator strap. A second version harmonises rose gold for the case and silver opaline dial, offering a softer visual appeal.
