As Pohela Boishakh approaches, Dhaka is preparing to welcome a new cultural gathering that brings together tradition and contemporary creativity. Arka Collective has announced Arka Boishakh ১৪৩৩, a two-day mela scheduled for 13–14 April 2026 at Aloki.
Positioned as an open and inclusive celebration, the event aims to recreate the familiar atmosphere of a Boishakhi fair while introducing a more curated cultural experience. Through music, food, art, and interactive spaces, Arka Boishakh looks to offer visitors a way to engage with Bengali New Year beyond the usual formats.
The festival is structured around several key zones. At its center is Collective Moncho, the main stage that will host continuous performances across both days. The lineup reflects a wide range of Bangladeshi musical and performance traditions, including Dhak-Dhol, Rabindra Sangeet, Baul music, classical dance, and contemporary live acts.
Alongside the stage, Khela Ghor provides a more interactive environment inspired by traditional mela activities. Visitors can expect games, bioscope, puppet shows, and other participatory experiences designed for all age groups.
The Marketplace brings together local designers, artisans, and independent brands, offering everything from clothing and accessories to lifestyle and creative products. It also serves as a platform for emerging creators to connect directly with visitors.
Food will play an important role in the experience through the Bhojonaloy, where a mix of Boishakhi dishes, street food, and diverse cuisine options will be available in a shared, social setting.
The programming across the two days follows a gradual build. Day 1 opens in the afternoon with traditional performances and moves into live music sets, including appearances by Karnival, Shibu, and Firoze Jong, before transitioning into electronic music later in the night. Day 2 begins in the morning with Rabindra Sangeet and continues through a mix of cultural performances and live acts, closing again with an evening music segment.
With partners including Prime Now, Circle Fashion, Ami Dhaka, and Arka Studio, the event reflects a broader effort to create platforms that connect culture, community, and younger creative voices.
Rather than a large-scale spectacle, Arka Boishakh ১৪৩৩ appears to focus on building a shared cultural space, one that stays rooted in tradition while allowing room for newer forms of expression.
